Lypozyme--Enzyme For Pets With Pancreatitis Lypozyme is an excellent choice for helping pets with pancreatitis and fat absorption. Also, very helpful for pets with liver disease. Pets with liver and gallbladder disease have difficulty digesting fats. This product is especially helpful for them as well as pets with heart disease. This product optimizes fat digestion and metabolism. The key ingredient is lipase. Sometimes people get confused because their veterinarian has advised them that their pet has elevated lipase (needed for fat digestion) and/or amylase (needed for carbohydrate digestion) and then wonder "why would I want to give a product that contains lipase if my pet's lipase is elevated?". The reason is that your pet's blood test shows elevated lipase because the pancreas is working too hard to digest the fats--thus the elevated lipase is a sign that the pancreas is secreting more than normal. By supplementing with lipase and amylase, you are helping your pet's pancreas and overall digestion and taking the workload off your pet's own pancreas. It is NOT uncommon to see pets that use this product show a return to normal of the elevated enzymes once a low fat diet and LypoZyme is implemented.
If your pet has liver disease or gallbladder disease, we strongly advise using this product along with BioLiv

Ingredients
Lipase 2,500 FCCLU Amylase 5,000 DU Protease 20,000 HUT Proprietary Enzyme Blend 208 mg
Lipase is a lipid (fat) digesting enzyme from Aspergillus oryzae. Incomplete digestion of fat allows fat to coat food particles and therefore interferes with the hydrolysis of other food components such as protein and carbohydrates. Normal digestion of dietary fat is accomplished by lipases with the assistance of bile, which is produced by the liver and normally supplied by way of the gallbladder. The function of bile is to bring ingested fats into emulsion to facilitate the work of the lipases. Incomplete digestion of fats may result in diarrhea and/or, more seriously, essential fatty acid deficiency. Adequate absorption of essential fatty acids is necessary to maintain membrane structure in cells throughout the body and to maintain healthy skin. Essential fatty acid deficiency also reduces blood clotting time. Additional enzymes (protease blend, amylase, cellulase) are included to enhance the performance of the other ingredients.
Supplementation with amylase allows digestion of carbohydrates during their transit through the gastrointestinal tract. These enzymes can tolerate the low pH of the gastric juice. The amylase hydrolyzes the starchy foods and liberates maltoses. Protease blend consists of alkaline, neutral and acid proteases plus peptidase. Protease blend includes proteases that are active in a wide range of pH's, ensuring that protein digestion will begin in the stomach. It also includes enzymes with a wide range of specificities (i.e. both endo- and exo- peptidase) in order to ensure the highest degree of protein degradation. | |
